Here’s a summary of what’s coming to an Android device or developer workstation near you. They covered Android, Chrome and Chromebooks, virtual reality, 360-degree camera arrays, a stripped-down version of Android for the internet of things, and many other geeky new toys. A stream of presenters followed each other across the stage, each talking about what was new for 2015. This year's keynote featured a smorgasbord of new technologies and additions/improvements to existing platforms. And at least based on the live stream video, the in-person audience members left the room with empty tote bags. It was all much lower-key, letting the technology do most of the bragging. Full-conference-center, wrap-around-the-auditorium-Pong, but Pong nonetheless. This year’s keynote opened with a game of Pong. Past Google I/O keynotes have featured skydivers wired up with Google Glass, parts of cars driven onto the stage, and always, always amazing swag (Chromebooks, media players and the like) that made the entry price for attending in person seem extremely nano. The Google I/O keynote for 2015 was short on gimmicks, but offered plenty of meaty new technology. ![]()
